ARC ID Numbers to be Brought in Line with National ID Number Format

November 26, 2018 | Taiwan

The number format on the Alien Residency Certificate (ARC) will be changed to match the number format on the Taiwan national identification card.

Specifically, the ARC number will change from two letters and eight numbers to one letter and nine numbers, like the Taiwan national ID card has.

The change is intended to:

  • Ease the process of online shopping and other activities that require a national ID number. The ARC number will be accepted;
  • Ease the process for foreign nationals to obtain bank accounts and telecommunication services; and
  • Make it easier to attract talent from abroad.

Note that no implementation date has been set for the change. More details will be forthcoming.
