Automatic National Health Insurance Enrollment
September 12, 2019 | South Korea
All foreign nationals with more than six months of residence in South Korea will now be enrolled in South Korea’s national health insurance (NHI) system automatically, regardless of whether they have other health insurance coverage. Those who do not make the requisite payments into NHI may not be able to renew their visas or residence cards.
Employers can request a waiver of the NHI enrollment on behalf of their employees if they can provide proof that the employee has alternate insurance coverage and has not used the NHI.
