DOS Launches Phase One of its Reopening Plan for U.S. Passport Operations
June 15, 2020 | United States of America
Following a temporary shutdown due to COVID-19, the Department of State has launched Phase One of its reopening plan.
On June 10, 2020 DOS began Phase One of its office reopening plan. During this phase, processing has resumed for U.S. passport operations, as some employees have returned to work. However, the agency notes that its still has limited capacity to process applications.
Non-emergency applications will be processed in the order in which they were received. Additionally, DOS will schedule in-person passport appointments for “life-or-death emergencies” only at this time. Customers must make appointments in advance. Due to health and safety concerns for visitors and DOS employees, individuals who do not have prior appointments will not be allowed into a DOS agency or center at this time.
