Federal Court Upholds Trump Administration’s Temporary Immigration Ban

Siding with the Trump Administration, a federal judge in Oregon has refused to suspend a 60-day ban on select overseas green card applications.

Last week, the Trump Administration issued a Presidential Proclamation ordering a 60-day freeze on select overseas green card applications. The administration reportedly issued the restriction to assist in stopping the spread of COVID-19. District Judge Michael Simon argued that stopping the temporary ban on green cards would interfere with the president’s attempt to restrict immigration for emergency national security reasons. The judge also stated that suspending the green card ban is outside his scope of authority.
