H-4 Visa Holders Face Restrictions on Work on 2020

January 14, 2020 | United States of America

For years, dependents of H-1B visa holders were not allowed to work in the United States. In 2015, a new rule allowed for qualifying H-4 spouses of certain H-1B visa holders to seek work authorization in the U.S. The government has proposed changes with the intent to rescind this rule. If these changes come into effect, H-4 visa holders may no longer be eligible for work authorization. An update is expected in Spring 2020.
At this time, the H-4 EAD rule remains in place and eligible H-4 spouses may continue to apply for employment authorization.
