Re-Collection of Fingerprints Causing Processing Delays

December 3, 2019 | Germany

Some foriegn nationals with pending immigration applications will need to re-submit fingerprints due to system updates at some German immigration offices. Impacted applicants will be contacted.

Fingerprinting requires an appointment and appointment wait times can be several weeks. Both those that require re-fingerprinting and others with pending applications should be prepared for processing delays while appointment times are used for re-fingerprinting and immigration staff work to address the re-fingerprinting requirement. Immigration office closures and increased application volume during the holiday season will further delay processing. The delays may impact travel plans and work start dates.

Foreign nationals with renewal applications in process that have upcoming international travel plans are advised to apply for interim travel permits as soon as possible, as their renewals may not be approved in time for their travel. Interim travel permit applications also require an appointment with the local immigration office.

Processing times are expected to return to normal in early 2020 once the holiday season ends and all fingerprints have been re-collected.
