Short-term Work Permit Changes to Come in Flanders; Brussels Considers Lower Minimum Salary for Some Applicants

June 29, 2020 | Belgium

The Flanders regional government is working on legislation that would introduce a short-term work permit that would be valid for multiple work trips over 90 cumulative days in a 180-day period in Flanders. Currently, the only work permit available for short-term work is valid for up to 90 consecutive days and multiple work permits are required for multiple trips. The new permit should be available in January 2021, if the legislation is approved without major changes, as is expected.

The Brussels regional government is considering reducing the minimum salary required for  highly-skilled workers under 30 years of age but has not started working on related legislation.

It remains to be seen if the Walloon regional government will follow suit and introduce similar measures.
